How to merge customers without breaking the Bloom connection

Last updated on 07 Jan, 2026

Shopify's new customer merge feature is a great way to consolidate member records when you have a member who has more than one Shopify profile. Typically this happens when a member has made purchases under different email addresses or when they get a new email address.

Shopify does allow you to merge members but please make sure that you are keeping the Shopify profile that is attached to the Bloom membership. Here's a video that shows the best practice.

The most important thing to keep in mind when merging member profiles is to keep the Shopify ID of the connected profile!

  1. Find the two profiles you're want to merge

  2. Determine which is connected to the Bloom membership by reviewing the customer tags, look for Bloom member tags

  3. Start from the connected membership to begin the merge

  4. Use the information of the connected membership to complete the merge, even if it's not what you want in the end.

    1. If the profile connected to Bloom has incorrect information note the information you want to update it to

  5. Finish the merge and update the newly merged profile with any new information.
